       		<description><![CDATA[This past February, I celebrated my twenty-fifth continuous year hosting and producing noncommercial 89.1 WFDU-FM's "Que Viva La Musica!" Marking this milestone has caused me to reflect upon how the industry has changed in the last quarter century, and also to ponder the current state of "straight-ahead" Salsa dura and Afro-Cuban music in the New York-metro area, in  2008. <br><br>     I‘m happy to report that I do see some glimmers of light – at long last. But, it's been a rough ride!<br><br>     The Big Apple's musicians, dancers, and afficionados of authentic Latin music, have experienced and survived a challenging era, one that began with a down-slide following the tragic events of September 11, 2001. To say that the music business proceeded to go soft remains an understatement.]]></description>
